There has been a lot of debate over the Civil List recently. This is the money that is paid by the nation to the Queen. The sum is a trifle next to the revenue generated by our tourist appeal as a Royalist nation, but I don’t think that’s really the point. Queen Elizabeth’s image is the popular face of Britain all over the World.

The Monarchy is an institution that made Britain Great, and remains a keystone of
