Gainsborough MP Edward Leigh among lower house's winning 8

The House of Commons crew rowed to victory against the Lords in yesterday’s annual Parliamentary Boat Race. Edward Leigh, the Member of Parliament for Gainsborough, took part as a rower for the Commons team. The Lords crew included Lord Thomas of Gresford, Lord Lucas of Crudwell, Lord St John of Bletso, the Earl of Courtown, Lord Addington, Viscount Goschen, Baroness Walmsley, and Lord Bilimoria, while Edward Leigh was joined by Matthew Offord MP, John Stevenson MP, George Freeman MP, Claire Perry MP, Dan Byles MP, Eric Joyce MP, and Tom Brake MP. Over the last couple of months, we have seen a terrific overhaul of responsibilities in Westminster. Not only has our government changed for the first time in thirteen years, but the new coalition has brought about some unprecedented ideological compromises and raised many interesting new figures to the centre stage of British politics. Irrespective of political leanings, no one can deny that we are seeing some fascinating developments, and it is very important that party politics at this stage does not interfere with the best interests of the people.
