Coronavirus: Ventilator Supply

Dear Constituent,

Thank you for contacting me about the supply of ventilators.

Ventilators are vital to treating people with severe cases of COVID-19. It is welcome that the Government has issued a national call-to-arms, asking manufacturers across the country to turn their capabilities towards building more ventilators, while also doing everything it can to buy as many ventilators around the world as possible.

I know that the Government has already ordered 10,000 new ventilators from Dyson, in addition to the 1,200 ventilators contributed by the independent healthcare industry.

At the time of writing, there are around 8,000 ventilators in the NHS, with an additional 8,000 purchased.

It is absolutely vital that members of the public follow clear guidelines to stay at home unless absolutely essential. This will help to slow the spread of the virus, and reduce the pressure on NHS resources like ventilators.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.

Yours,

EDWARD LEIGH MP
