Sir Edward Leigh, the Conservative MP for Gainsborough, has continually urged the Government to take stronger action to stop the flow of illegal migrants across the English Channel.
"If we are being weak as a government we are actually being inhumane. We are putting people's lives at risk because more and more people will come to our shores and risk the Channel."
"The only way we're going to stop this is if we put these economic migrants who enter this country illegally in secure accommodation."
"I say to the Government: act now, get tough, or people will die."
Here are a series of Sir Edward's recent interventions in the House of Commons on illegal Channel crossings.

We need to eliminate the pull factor: make sure anyone who illegally enters the UK from a safe country is detained. pic.twitter.com/w7M9GUWXDw

If governments are weak, people die. What an appalling and entirely foreseeable tragedy. pic.twitter.com/EK0TZo8oKP

We said we would take back control but we seem to have lost control of our border.
We need stronger action to stop illegal Channel crossings and stop the traffickers and people smugglers. pic.twitter.com/xjbkMOZZZF

The cruellest thing is to do nothing while hundreds of people's lives are at risk.
We can and must stop this wicked exploitation of vulnerable people. pic.twitter.com/41xccW3uiS

I've been hounding ministers on doing more to stop the cruel trade of people smuggling and take better action against illegal Channel crossings.
The bill we will vote on next week will close some of the loopholes being used by illegal migrants. pic.twitter.com/WxJ16W2XZx
