I was very grateful to Madam Deputy Speaker for letting me have the last question to the Home Secretary at today's question time.

Under the U.N. Refugee Convention, we are allowed to deport foreign criminals who have entered the country illegally, but unfortunately the European Court of Human Rights has ruled that the European Convention does not allow this.

This is a lacuna of law which I urged her to bring up at the next Committee of Ministers meeting of the Council of Europe.
