After years of campaigning, along with my honourable friend, the Member of Parliament for Brigg and Immingham, Martin Vickers, to re-establish a direct through-train service from Grimsby to London via Market Rasen, I was very disappointed to received this letter from the Secretary of State for Transport last week.
The letter confirmed that the Government isn't willing to commit the funds to Lincolnshire in order to provide this service, something that we once had under the old British Rail - the referenced £15-20 million works to extend the platform and build a new footbridge are simply not necessary and serve as an excuse to further delay or prevent this from happening.
Despite this, we will continue to fight on in order to try and achieve this as it would be a very valuable amenity for local people to have access to.
