Workers' Rights after Brexit

Dear Constituent,

Thank you for contacting me about workers’ rights.

I was disturbed by the rumoured rollback of workers’ rights that the left-wing press has been peddling. These untruths play on the fears of often very vulnerable people with the aim of creating an atmosphere of distrust.

The Government has at all times proclaimed its commitment to maintaining and enhancing workers’ rights following our departure from the EU. The Secretary of State for Business has made clear that the Government has absolutely no intention of lowering the existing protections and standards for workplace safety and employment. On the contrary, he expressed a desire to protect and enhance workers' rights going forward.

A review into how best to deliver workers’ rights had been planned, but with all that the Government is having to deal with it has understandably been scrapped.

Ultimately, the UK has one of the best records on workers’ rights in the world, going further than the EU in many areas, and I am determined to build on this progress.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.

Yours,

EDWARD LEIGH MP
